"Solid" Food

Tonight was Ellie's first venture into solid foods! We put her in her new portable high chair and fed her rice cereal! Don't worry, we got pics :) She did relatively well considering...
There were definitely funny faces, and she didn't get much of it to stay in her mouth, but she did well with the chair and with the spoon! We are so proud of our little munchkin. We will try again a little each day until she takes more, and we look forward to trying veggies next!
Love to all~

October update

Hi all. I know it has been a while since we updated, so here is a quick update:
John has interviewed for a different position within Verizon, so we are praying he gets that. He should find out today, hopefully. His schedule would be a good deal better, and way better than his next one will be with the new shift bid.
Things are still trucking along for the other irons in the fire, so we are just waiting for God to move some mountains!
Ellie had her 4 mo. appt yesterday. She had to get 4 shots and drink some stuff, and she did relatively well. She is 12 lbs 1.5 oz, 24 inches, and growing well. She was fussy last night due to the shots, but she seemed to sleep fitfully, and was doing alright this morning.
I am still taking my class, and all is going well there. Things are good at work as well. Not much change on my part.
Life is pretty much just trucking along. Finances are hard, but when aren’t they? God is working mightily (as usual!) to move mountains, or show us ways to go over or around them. This week’s service at church was awesome! One of the best I have been to in ages! I suggest everyone check it out at churchofcelebration.com!
Well, enough for now I guess. I will try to be better about blogging so ya’ll know what is going on in our little world.

Love to all our friends and family!

Phew! What a week it's been, and what a weekend it will be!

Ok, well, we haven’t had time to update in the past week, and here is why:

Saturday 9/12: My day with Ellie was very long, as she wasn’t in a napping mood, and is going thru a growth spurt. I had to do 2 sessions of homework so I could try and get all my class work done for the 1st unit which closed on Wednesday the 16th @ 2pm. My goal for the day had been to cook 3 different dishes so John and I would have loads of leftovers for the week. That didn’t happen. I got the pasta done, and that was good enough.
The evening was spent with our wonderful friends, Brian and Crystal, and their precious little girls, Sami (3 yrs) and Kate (6 mos). It was a fun evening full of adventure. We had just sat down to eat when Ellie started fussing…again. I didn’t know why until I unhooked her bouncer and realized she had had a blowout. John took her upstairs and got her started in the bath while I stripped the bouncer and got it in the wash. I went in to help him, and he was holding her and making gagging sounds! I just started laughing at him because he was acting like a typical (stereotypical) dad who has to change a gross diaper! Meanwhile, Sami had a little accident downstairs. So, after we were all able to attend to the little people, we finally got to eat. Afterward, we played Risk (Mission version). John won. Crystal got a pic of Ellie and Kate in Ellie’s crib since we wanted to compare their sizes. They are just so darn cute!!

Sunday 9/13: We had church, of course! John played cello this week. He was on for all 3 services, so I went to 1st service with Ellie and took our friend Rick. I went to the store, and was able to get the paper, since there were 5 inserts of coupons in each (so 15 in all to clip and organize). We also went to the Onquit’s house for Jason Bovey’s welcome home party.

Monday 9/14: Work. Get Ellie. Home. Feed. Dinner. Bed. This was pretty much it. Found out Grandma was in the hospital, so John and I pretty much were out of it anyhow.

Tuesday 9/15: Work. Had headache. Get Ellie. Went to Kristi’s house to get a ring sling and learn how to use it. Ran over a tree on the way home, which would prove to be a bigger headache than originally imagined…Home. Dinner – John fried chicken tenderloins and made potato chips! Yummy! Homework then took quiz. Did mediocre. Bed.

Wednesday 9/16: What a day! I overslept by an hour. Headed to work, and got about 3 miles outside of Maricopa and had a blow out. Had to wake John and get Ellie out of the house so he could come help me. Waited an hour for tow truck and took car to Fletcher’s to get tire fixed. They didn’t bother to start on it for quite some time. Got a call @ 4:15 that they couldn’t get the tire off b/c they didn’t have the wheel lock. Had to go search for it, and of course, it was nowhere to be found. Had them put the car in a parking space while we went to Tempe to Discount Tire to get a new one. Got it and went to Costco for dinner. Cheap! Pizza and soda, yummy. Dropped by the Housley’s and dear Bill went with John to change tire to donut (THANK YOU BILL!!). They dropped car at home, then came back. We went home, and I went to bed.

Thursday 9/17: I went to work. Our friend Brian picked up Ellie for us and took her to Beth (since he had to go there anyway to drop off little B, and Makena goes to the school behind our house). THANK YOU B!! John got more air in the donut, and then Bill followed him up to town (THANK YOU AGAIN BILL!). John got the tire fixed and went on to work. We were going to dinner with friends, so I picked up Tyler and met John and Sumer @ Red Lobster for all-u-can-eat shrimp. It was delicious! Good times with good friends and good food is what life is all about!

Finally it’s Friday!!! It has been a long and exhausting week, but it will all pay off this weekend that is jam-packed with fun, food and friends! Tonight 9/18: Today we work, but tonight we play! Well, we watch the D-Backs play, and then watch MercyMe play. Tonight is the COC Family Fun Night at Chase Field. This will be Ellie’s first baseball game, and John is sooooo excited. We will take lots of pics to share. I am excited because we get to hang out with lots of friends, take Ellie to her first game, and see a baseball game and a concert, all for $20 (+ parking)!! Not to mention, eat one of the best hotdogs ever!

Tomorrow 9/19: I am helping Crystal with her garage sale from 7a-11a, then Ellie and I are going to Aimee’s for her Guatamalan handbag and jewelry show from 1p-4p, then home to wait for John. Then, at 7p, I am going to the Mom’s Night Out baby clothing exchange and potluck at Julie’s house.

Sunday 9/20: We have church in the morning, then we are doing photos with Yvette! These will be our first “official” photos of Ellie, and our first “official” photos as a family! I can’t wait. We have to find her something cute and special to where :)
Ok, that is the rundown, and catches everyone up to speed on the life of the Lapps to date. Love to you all!!!

A New Day

9-11-09
Well, we made it through another day, and today is Friday!!
Before I give the updates from yesterday, let us take a moment to remember this day and those who died 8 years ago and to pray for their families…
It is important we never forget…never forget where we have been and what we have gone through to get to where we are today. After all, those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. I know it is unnecessary to say “never forget” because how could we ever forget something so tragic? God bless you all, today, and every day.
Well, yesterday was long, but good. Got home and fed Ellie, then we went to Court Whist. This was Ellie’s 2nd time at CW, and she did very well, as usual! She didn’t fuss much at all, even though she didn’t sleep either. She just hung out in her stroller and played with her toys (with her feet!). Everyone appropriately adored her, I mean, how could you not?! We had a good time and got home a little late, around 10:30ish. She fell asleep in the car, around 9:45, and the best part of all…SHE SLEPT UNTIL 6:00am! She hasn’t done that in months. It was nice to get a good night of sleep…so nice that I overslept! John and I are hoping she will do it again tonight.
Well, gotta get back to work and get through the day so I can get home to our little Ellie bean! Much love to you all!

Long time no blog!! Boy have things changed!

OK, so we have had a baby since my last blog. Too much has happened to even be able to catch up...so here is a recap of the last few days:

9-6-09: Baby Dedication
Today was Ellie’s dedication day. She was dedicated at COC during the 2nd service. This was a very special day for our family for so many reasons:
o 1st and foremost, of course, was that we dedicated to raise our little angel in the way that God has ordained and to help her follow His path.
o 2nd, we were joined this day by our dear friends Brian and Crystal Smith, who are like family and were so sweet as to come for this important occasion in Ellie’s life.
o 3rd, my dad (Ellie’s grandpa Gary) joined us too. This was a significant occurrence in my life, and ours as a family.
o 4th, we were surrounded by so many loved ones – friends and family alike, praying over Ellie and our family. We were so blessed! We can’t begin to explain how blessed and loved we felt at that moment.
o Now, I must share that God has a sense of humor, even in serious moments like prayer over the children…Josh had introduced each family and child, and shared their life verses, and just before he asked people to come forward to bless and pray for the families, Ellie made a little poo-poo. Then, during his prayer, with so many loved ones around us in tears and showering us with love, she made a very loud poo-poo! Summer, who was beside me, about lost it, as did quite a few of those around Ellie, including me! I just couldn’t believe it! The funniest part was that Miss Judy, who had been watching and photographing the occasion for us, said that you could just see Ellie beaming and looking quite relieved and proud of herself!

9-7-09: Labor Day
Today was Ellie’s first venture to the pool! She looked so adorable in her tiny little suit and robe!! John and I joined Miss Judy and Ellie’s “Auntie Amanda” at the pool in the Villages. He and I took turns sitting on the edge of the pool and holding Ellie. We held her over the water and lowered in her legs up to about her knees so she could experience a little bit. She did wonderfully! She didn’t get scared or upset in the slightest. She seemed to really enjoy it. We didn’t get her all the way in though…she is still too young for that. There isn’t even sunscreen for babies until they are 6 mos. , so she sat in our laps, and we got her damp with handfuls of water to keep her cool, and we dipped in her little feet and legs.
We were only there for ~45 mins, but it was plenty. She was pooped afterwards, and took a good nap when we got home. We can’t wait to take Pool Time Ellie back out though!

9-9-09: Grandma Diane’s b-day, and semi-historic date
This is the last time there will be a single digit repeat like this for the next 92 years, so we will never see it happen again, and Ellie is likely not to either, unless she lives to be 92 (let’s hope)! This will not occur again until January 1st, 2101 – 01-01-01. So I just wanted to take a moment to notice 9:09am and 9:09 pm today when the time and date clocks will say 9:09 09-09-09!! Also, it is Grandma Diane’s birthday…what a day…fhew…

1st blog after baby

Ok, so April 12th was ever so long ago, and SO much has happened since then, but I forgot my log-in info for a while, and was very preoccupied. So here is a quick update...
> 1st and foremost, had a baby! We were joined in the world by Eleanor Alysse (Ellie) on June 17th at 6:03pm. She was 21" and 7 lbs 12 oz, and perfectly beautiful! Labor was long and exhausting. We got to the hospital for an outpatient procedure on the 16th at 4:30pm, then were told that I had pre-eclampsia and couldn't leave until she was born. This all occured at Chandler Regional, not Mercy Gilbert as we were registered, however, we had the best nursing staff ever. We finally got to leave the hospital after 7pm on Friday, June 19th.
My mom and in-laws came from NC to help us and to be here for her arrival. We were exceptionally grateful that they were here, and we hated to see them leave.
> Well, other stuff happened, like me taking leave from work, John getting to do the same, got a 2nd car (which rocks!), and other stuff, however, I really can't recall much of it because the only thing on my mind is this precious little angel!
Later, I will tell more of the tale of her miracle birth. God really kept her safe and blessed us greatly :)

Well, it's getting later, and I am exhausted, and we have a finicky baby that has finally decided to sleep some. She is getting way to used to falling asleep on one of us...please offer advice if you can as to how we can break that. We love it, but it is only going to get worse.

Good night world!

It's been a heck of a day...

Well, it's been a while since we have posted, so I think it is time.

We had a wonderful trip back to NC. Got to see family and friends we hadn't seen in a while. It was great to see everyone, and we are so grateful for the baby shower that our mom's threw for us and the little sunshine! We want to thank everyone that was able to come and that they were so wonderful to us.

The week was pretty good, also was short. The weekend was petty good, until this morning. Slight scare at church. All was fine through setup and first service, then during the second service, I almost fainted, and they had to call an ambulance and get me to Chandler Regional. Don't really know what happened except it got really warm, I couldn't breath, then my hearing and vision started getting all fuzzy, so I had John take me outside. Before we could get 30 ft, I got all "jelly legged" (as John put it) so is sat me down. A couple of friends came to help and they got me outside. the ambulance showed up and they took my blood pressure and blood sugar, then took me to Chandler. Once there, they hooked me to monitors and checked on the baby. Thank the good Lord above, all was well with her, and I was released within a couple of hrs. Now, I just have to rest, and drink loads of water, get rest, and follow dr's orders.

I will be taking the 3 hr glucose test this week, so hopefully that goes well, although I am not thinking it will after this little episode.

That is pretty much it. All else is well. We are going to try and order the baby furniture this week or next, and get the border up in the room.

Well, gotta go get some more rest. God bless you all and Happy Easter!

~Ashley, John and baby

Happy Thursday!

Well good morning!

It is currently 6:30am, I am showered and dressed, and hubby is getting ready for work too. Just a few quick updates on the week:

Monday - had class, see blog!

Tuesday - Met with a few gals at Native. Ordered fish platter, and 2 dozen hot wings! The waitress looked at me like I was crazy. I really ordered them because John requested them, and I wanted to take them home to him. The issue was it was .35 wing night, and they only let you get that price for dining in. I actually at 4, and didn't get sick! Baby started to move, so I figured I shouldn't push it, but they were awesome! The waitress was a dear and gave me a box for the rest, and she did only charge me the .35 each, which was like 1/2 of the regular price for 24 wings. So sweet! Afterward, I went home, and Sumer and Tyler were over already and had sealed the stripes and were painting the final color. Stripes are done, and room looks adorable! We still need to get the border up, and we are so excited to see the finished product! We have a couple of things for the wall, and mom is getting a couple of pics done for the wall too. We also registered for a really neat multi-picture frame at Target, and will have to get that for sure. I want to put pics of family and babies little friends in it.

Wednesday - Yesterday was good. Work went well, and I felt blessed in one way in particular. I was able to locate info on a wood-working artist I had seen work by when we were in San Diego and was able to order 2 really cool puzzles for babies room! They are shapped like animals, and the pieces that make up the animal are the letters of the animal. I can't wait to get them so everyone can see them! The guy was so very nice, and these pieces are going to rock! After work I of course had class. Kinda long and was really tired afterward. Went to Sonic, got a Jr. Deluxe burger (only $1), small tots (also only $1) and a lg. Strawberry Limeade. I actually was able to eat the whole burger and NOT get sick!! Can I eat meat again?! Let's hope so!

That brings us to today. Tonight John has worship practice, and I will probably be trying to put more stuff away, since there are still boxes everywhere. We are so pumped about our trip next week, so I may start packing too!

Well, I better go dry my hair and pack lunches so we can get the day started.

Love,
Ashley

Mondays...and not just any typical Monday...

The weekend was rough, the morning was rough, the day was long.

The weekend:
I was sick this weekend, for reasons unknown to me. I not only got sick, but had a bad headache/migrane, slept little, missed importantthings (to me) like setting up for C-City (our children's ministry at church,SORRY NICOLE!), church, teaching for C-City, grocery shopping, cleaning and setting up the house, etc.

The morning:
Had to do the gestational diabetes test. This was not fun. I had only had water to drink, and had to go in and drink about 8 oz of what tasted like flat orange soda, then sit for an hr, then give 3 or 4 vials of blood. This was bad, but not awful. The worst part was that the sugar stuff gave me the shakes a little and made me need food. The rest of the day, I was off...couldn't figure out what to eat to re-establish equalibrium in my system.

The day:
Besides being shaky, I worked a few hrs, then had class. This made the day long. At least this class was pretty interesting. I think the most interesting pointfor me was when the professor asked how many ppl are married or have been married, and I was the only one in a class of probably 75 ppl to respond in the affirmative! He looked at me and said "so just the two of us then" which made me chuckle, and feel old at the same time!

OK, so this is all true, but it wasn't all that bad, just a little mentally andphysically tiring. I will sleep it off tonight. At least I continued to "Give the day a chance" (to get this reference, see link in John's blog below to COC msgfrom 3-15-09).

I will say that I had to ask John to tell his daughter to quit tickling me from the inside of my tummy! She was moving around, and it felt like shewas trying to tickle me :) It was cool, but honestly, a little creepy too!

This pregancy thing is neat. I still vow not to do it again (sorry to the moms!) but I don't do well with illness, missing work (which I have to do everytime Ihave to go to the doctor), massive and numerous headaches, etc. However, never fear (moms especially), I would like to adopt, so there can stillbe another grandchild one day!

ok. So enough of my thought purging for today.

Be blessed, as we are!
Ash

It's Saturday night, my wife feels like crap, and I'm tired...but all's well

Well, it's time for my first blog post. As the title infers, it's Saturday night & I'm extremely thankful that I have the next 2 days off. It has been one crazy week...of course they all seem to be crazy weeks lately. Between work, Ashley's school, our church commitments, and getting ready for a new baby girl, my plate is full. It's nice to be able to take a few minutes to decompress. God has been so good to us & sometimes I forget to stop for a few minutes to take stock of all the wonderful blessings He's given me: an incredible wife, a baby-to-be, a family as supportive as anyone could ask for, and friends that I know I can always count on. I know that I am truly blessed to have these things & on top of all of that God has seen fit to give us a nice house, good jobs, and we never go hungry.

Yes my friends, God is good indeed! All I have to do is slow down my busy self to remember to thank Him every once in a while & share my cookies and skittles with those who may need them more than me. (For anyone that doesn't get that reference you'll just have to check out the messages from Feb 8 & 15 at this link: http://www.churchofcelebration.com/media.shtml. I promise it's worth the time.)

Last, but not least, you didn't think I wrap this up without posting our latest ultrasound pictures, did you?

Soccer baby

Well, I feel like I have a basketball in me that I could dribble down the court, except of course it is attached, which might make that a little difficult!

She has been kicking and moving and making me feel like a human soccer ball.

This week has been decent, but long. John and I are both ready for our vacation. Can't wait for the baby shower and to see family!

We hope you are all doing well. I will try to figure out how to add pics to the blog soon, especially the ultrasound ones!

Thursday's

Hi-ho, Hi-ho, it's off to work we go...

Ya know, I know that kids movies should be good for adults too, but I think that this little ditty from Snow White was just a bit of cruelty on Disney's part ;) It's like they said "well, the families are enjoying a movie now, but let's remind them that they will be back to reality soon enough!".

Ok, so probably not, but when it is early on a Thursday, you are tired, and just two days from the weekend (3 for John since he is off Sunday and Monday), it hits like a brick! Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with my job, but let's face it, we all enjoy our "down time" (in "" because I really don't get much, but I still love my weekends!).

I hope you all have a very blessed day, and that this Thursday is especially fruitful for you. Afterall, THIS is the day the Lord has made...so rejoice and be glad IN it (thanks for the reminder Pastor Josh!). If you are wondering what this is about, go to www.churchofcelebration.com and listen to this past weeks msg. It was great.

Whistling while I work,
Ashley

First ever blog

Well, we finally did it! We have joined the world of blogging.

The decision came at random, as do many in our house, and swift action was taken (not always the norm in our house!). We figure that this way everyone can see how the pregnancy is progressing, how the nursery is coming along, how the new house is going, and just how life is treating us in general!

This week is full of events:
Wednesday: Work (of course), followed by a study session for Ash, then home to crash!
Thursday: work, hospital tour, worship practice for John, studying for Ash
Friday: work, then CR worship for John and Life Group for Ash
Saturday: The day of all days this week! John has to work, Ash is going to a scrapping workshop, a study session, Chelsea's baby shower, then get John from work, go home and do dinner, and Dad is going to finally get to come down to see the house!

Well, that is the week in a nutshell. I must get busy now, but check back soon for more updates!

Zeph 3:17 - "The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love;he will exult over you with loud singing"
